SLK 200 my2005 Heated seat problem

Was just wondering if any one out there has had a similair problem or knows of anything like this.. the two front seats in our slk are heated however the drivers seat comes on for a matter of seconds then goes off the passangers will continue to function, is this a simple DIY fix or is it best left to a specialist
Have not had a look at anythin yet

The heated seats have 2 elements in the side bolsters and another element stitched to the centre piece all connected in series. So a damage to any of these could cause dysfunction. Heated seats breaking is not uncommon in these cars which is in reality a design fault MB fails to recognise.

A new seat base from the stealer is about 800£. For more info, check www.slkworld.com and search heated seats.

Agree with the above, except that when the seats go (and it is a regular problem, I've had it with mine) generally they're like a light bulb, they just stop working.

When mine went the switch worked fine and the seat base heated up, but not the backrest.

A replacement backrest section was the answer, and yes cost was about £800 (they have to replace the whole pad, leather and all).

it may be worth checking the electrical connector plug under the seat. If you put the seat back as far as it goes then get a light & look under the front of the seat you'll see a couple of connector plugs. If memory serves me right it's a black plug with a couple of wires in it. The plug has a tendancy to melt & damage the terminals & also in some cases i've seen the wiring break off the terminals. Whatever you do stay away from any yellow connector plugs as these are the SRS - airbag connectors for the side airbag in your seat & should not be touched unless you know what your doing & have followed the necessary precautions.
