varioram came in on UK cars from sept 1995...so it sounds like it will have.

look above and back from the fan if you can see silver inlet tracts then that is varioram, on most (not all ) of these inlet tracts "varioram" script is raised in the casting.
Either side of these tracts there will be two black plunge sliders on adjustable brass coloured rods these activate the varioram..

YES I am sure it is Sept 1995 and not 1996....varioram first appeared on 993 RS a few months earlier than regular carreras and RS came out in 1995.

Also, if the exhaust is original, the pipes will be more elongated than the oval ones of the pre-varioram cars.

'96 MY presumably. With German cars the model year generally starts in September of the previous year, when the factory reopens after the closedown in August.

Easy - just check the VIN.

Varioram was introduced for the 1996 model year. A '96 will have 'T' as the 10th character in the VIN, '95 will be 'S' etc.

And then once you`ve digested all that vital information my advice would be to file it in some darkened recess of your mind and concentrate on buying a good car !

There is more difference between two 993`s these days than between a v-ram and non v-ram car.

Not only that but if you really are chasing the last half a horsepower then the word on the street is that you need to start with a non v-ram car as a base !

But in reality a really good tight on the money 993 will be a better car than an average example.

Induction manifold is prominent alloy feature on VR engine so appearance of engine compartment different.

Don't let it sway your judgement if you're choosing a car. Condition is much more important than VR non VR.

Varioram (285 bhp)cars have square exhaust pipes
Non varioram (272 bhp)cars have oval exhaust pipes.
