All 12 bolts removed, how do you get it off!

I'm no lightwieght but no amount of tugging & pulling will get it free?

Have not taken rocker covers off as I'm only trying to replace the valley gasket.

Any ideas???

smash ?

Old gaskets can be difficult.
Try a thin bladed scraper to break the seal between head and manifold. From then on it should go better.
Something like a putty knife might also be enough to get it started.

Unless of course there is some secret 'RV8 manifold release button' I am unaware of? scratchchin

Apparently there are 'rules'. I should have known...

Just keep tugging and pulling. I managed to remove mine without removing the rocker covers, but if removing the rocker covers makes it a bit easier then i say go for it.
A large rubber mallet helps!

Cheers guys, unbolted the offside rocker and with a bit of brute force it's off.

As suspected the valley gasket is shot, will post photo later.

This is a job on my list as mine is seeping oil. When you bought the valley gasket did it come with the end pieces? I' understand that they need to be replaced but don't see them for sale on the often used web sites such as Rimmers.

Chris

I waited until I had it all stripped down before I ordered my parts, when they arrive and I've confirmed they all fit I will post up where they all came from.

Good post ! Enjoying the pics.
What is the original valley gasket made from to rust through like that - plain steel ?

Are there any better options for replacement like composites ?

They are all steel, just the later 'composite' version is coated (and they can eventually perish through as well BTW).

Like many other things, there can be vast differences in the quality of gaskets from different sources, I wouldn't buy cheap britpart/ebay stuff for things that you can't easily replace and/or keep an eye on - better to go somewhere like Power or V8d where they are likely to have some idea how their products stand up to use?
I completely agree. Thanks Spend.

Here you go take your pick, genuine land rover or aftermarket. Another added bonus is, theres no rip off £8.00 p and p

Those are for the 3.5EFi, is that right ? Are all the valley gaskets the same dimensions across the range ?

I have ordered 2 of the composite gaskets plus the rubber end seals in the past and they are identical to the originals. If your unsure give them a phone, they are a very good, [and reasonably priced] company to deal with.

Heres the link http://www.rimmerbros.co.uk/Item--i-GRID009128 for the correct page. The valley gasket and end seals are the same.
