They can suck my dick if they think I'm accepting that.

I'm guessing this is minus your excess and anything owing on your policy ?

What's your excess? Your profile says you only paid £1095 for it, so guessing it might not be unreasonable if you've a high voluntary excess; I know I did when I purchased by first one.

How much are you expecting?

So £350 excess + £350 cheque = £700. The world is not exactly flooded with £700 working MX5s but that's not far off the bottom of the market.

I guess this is about the time we should consider agreed value policies. That way if we feel ours is worth more than the cheapest of the same year, we can get what we agree.

I mean mine is a 130,000 mile 1997 1.8. Body is a bit tatty as is the interior. So what £1000 sounds about right. But it's got a Hard Dog roll bar (£600 to replace), FM ARBs (err... £200?), and Gaz Shocks & Springs (£500 ish?) That's £1300 of bits I'd have to fit to a £1000 car to get back to where I am. I guess I'd like to agree with an insurer a value of £1700 ish. I really should have done that before I took out the policy...

OP - You do realise that future policies (for the next 5 years) will go up as a result? Is it really worth claiming?

Any chance of buying it back so you can break it? Someone on here was after your wheels (I think you had the chrome ones) so that would be a good start!

How much are they worth 'as parts' if say the engine is goosed?

It won't matter, he has already informed them of the accident so his future premiums will be affected regardless of whether a claim ensues or not...

Engine (or head/block separately).
If engine is screwed, CAS, MAF/AFM, injectors etc.
Any additions i.e. brace bars
Seats
Carpets
Front wings
Front bumper
Rear bumper
Headlights
Doors
Exhaust
Shocks/springs
Wishbones
Stereo
Harness
ECU
etc.

Obviously being a write-off some of those parts are likely to be unsellable but you'd be surprised how much can be stripped off and sold.

Might not get a lot for each part but it does all add up. Of course that all depends on having the space for a car to sit while it's being stripped. I wouldn't have the space for it myself having a tiny garage & one parking space for 3 cars.

Correct. It's not the claim that pushes the premium up, it's the accident. However, it might save any NCB that might have been built up.

Hmmm, that lot, excluding engine should be worth ~£400
