Replacement Fuel Sender

Hi Guys, I've had some success previously with the search function but it appears to be down this morning. My fuel gauge has been indicating empty with the occasional flutter of inaccuracy for some time now so it is time to tackle the problem. Following the advice from previous threads I can confirm that the problem is with the sender as the gauge jumps to full when earthed to either the tank or to the chassis. I realise there may be a quick fix to re-solder the two vulnerable points on the circuit if cracked and bending the track back into contact - I will check this before discarding the current sender when I remove it.

My question is regarding a source of new parts. People have previously used the Land Rover parts as follows:
Sender: PRC 8822
Seal & Lock Ring: ARA 1501L & 1502L

The cost of these is about total from ebay is £25 but a reasonable amount of bending the float arm into shape is required and I've read that a TVR original is £35 from TVR Car Parts. I've had no joy getting through to them though through the whole of last week as the website is down for maintenance until March 1st. Is the phone number displayed correct - 01884 266755?

Also, will the Land Rover seal and locking ring work with the OEM TVR Sender if I do manage to get hold of one from TVR Car Parts or otherwise? If I manage a quick fix on my existing sender I'll be wanting to use a new seal when replacing it.

Personally for the sake of £10 i would just buy the correct one, nothing worse than having a car apart just to find the item received is the wrong one or doesnt quite fit correctly

Got the land rover one (froma local landie indy) and judged it would be a PITA to adjust so bought new from TVR Car Parts, try 01884 266 675 as an alternative number to 01884 266755

Thanks, I got through to TVR parts and am on the waiting list for a new sender @£35. Should be about 4 weeks so petrol roulette continues until then! Any idea if the land rover seals are the same as the TVR ones though? I imagine they're a pretty standard part.

Sort of the seals are the correct diameter etc and certainly the locking ring works perfectly BUT I bought my seals from Adrian Venn Adrian@ here Exactly TVR as he has them made ticker and they worked perfectly

My fuel gauge is working again!! I didn't even need to remove the original sender either - moral of the story is to spend extra time at the diagnosis stage rather than jumping straight tithe ordering replacement sender bit. I had previously confirmed the gauge was ok by running a separate wire to the chassis earth but I didn't think to to tinker with the earth wire pictured though at the time. Knowing that my gauge was ok I ordered a brand new TVR sender and seals from TVR Car Parts (£43 inc VAT and deliv) which I was about to fit today.... As I was removing the spade connector for my existing sender earth though I notice the gauge flicker to life. Damn! Cleaned the connectors, pinched the female part with pliers to get a better fit and hey presto... Working gauge so my sender was fine all along! Oh well, can't hurt to have a brand new spare in stock, or I may return it and put the money towards my retrim!

Dave glad it's working again. At least you don't have to run the tank low and lean the car over. Let alone actually perform surgey on your lovely machine.
