This one ranks - well, pretty highly actually.

Browsing Autoste one night when I noticed this for sale in the darkest depths of Cornwall for scrap value. It had been bought by a banger racer who then decided it was too rare to race and left it in a shed for a year or so. Naturally, the only sensible course of action was to immediately buy it. I present to you the 1983 Zastava Yugo 313











It's currently not roadworthy and will need work, but I'm hoping to have it up and ready for the summer. Paintwork is shagged but the body is (mostly) solid. I have been contacted by the head of the Owner's Club (yes, there is one) who has informed me that it is the only 313 left in the UK! So, the plan is:

1) get the car - done
2) ?
3) MOT the car
4) Drive the car around LIKE A SIR
5) ?
6) Profit

Well, according to the wonderfully anoraky www.aronline.co.uk (don't go there if you're not willing to waste many an hour) the Zastava 101 (of which this is a very mild facelift) had the distinction of setting the template for the Golf-class - compact midsized hatchback, transverse FWD drivetrain etc (it's based on the notchback Fiat 128) etc. ...

So also being the only one lft of its type, I guess you could class this car as being of historic significance...

It probably was rather ahead of its time, only problem was it stood still whilst the rest of the world carried on. It's certainly a car that divides opinion, but most of it has been positive

It also seems this is such an Un-Pisonheads car Yugo isn't even listed in the "My Garage" section!

I think the reason that they are rare was that the factory making them got bombed during the conflict in the former Yugoslavia, and who said nothing good comes from war.
