I've been growing increasingly bored of Evo it has to be said. I've just felt increasingly out of touch with 100k Supercar reviews to the extent that when it drops on the mat large portions of it remain unread. I never used to be like this.
However, this month we have the 15k Heroes.
There's a hot hatch shoot-out:
Abarth 500 v Cooper v Fiesta Metal v Ibiza FR v Swift Sport v A1 Sport v Twingo 133
And even better we have a Modern 15k Classics shoot-out:
996 C2 v F10 M5 v 4200GT v Tuscan v NSX
Just off to pop the kettle on and settle into a nice read!

It's about time. I was reading an EVO article about the LFA Nurburgring last night, and whilst it was an alright article about a pretty nice car (though generally not one that interests me greatly), most of the article seemed to be a smug account of the writer's many trips to the Nurburgring, with a dash of self-aggrandizing trumpet blowing thrown in (something about only being allowed to drive the LFA Nurburgring edition if your 'lines were clean enough' following a lead vehicle...
As much as I enjoy EVO, it really does need to get away from that silly, pretentious guff and get back to being about the cars rather than the writer's ego. It is no small surprise that the most interesting articles usually focus on affordable performance cars (and affordable performance cars of the 80's and 90's). In these articles, there is less scope for the writer to become infatuated with himself and subsequently gloating about his current position of driving whichever supercar he is driving. In those articles, it's all about the cars. And the claims of flying around the countryside, car constantly on the limit, seem a little less far fetched.
More please.

I used to subscribe to EVO a few years ago but stopped when money was tight (and it really was tight).
I still enjoy it now and again, but only buy on rare occasions. To be honest, i like the stuff about supercars/hypercars etc, if i want to make a shortlist of potential next cars, i know a place where everyone loves a 'What Car' thread
On a side note, i've just placed an order for 3 copies of Octane for £1, after browsing an old copy in a waiting room last week. I was a bit perplaxed when my name was called for my appointment as i was enjoying it so much!

While we're on this vein: I'd love to read a 'repeat' group test, i.e. a 5 years / 10 years later (be it EVO/CAR/etc etc).
i.e. take a set of cars that a group test was done when they were new and look at them again, compare residuals, value for money, running costs, reliability and also the original criteria upon which they were done. Also interesting to know how many sold (asssuming the initial group test was cars in the same class/price band/etc).
A 'back test' if you like of their initial conclusions when the cars were new!

Notwithstanding any suggested editorial bias for certain makes, I agree that it was one of the more interesting recent evo articles and would definitely like to see more of this sort of thing in the future.
I've been really impressed with Evo over the last few months and I'll probably skip the 'hot hatch shoot-out'.
