RE: First DTM BMW M3 livery revealed
Monday 30th January 2012

BMW has revealed the first paint job for its return to the Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters, an eco-friendly green 'n' blue job extolling the virtues of Castrol Edge oil and Aral (read:BP) Ultimate fuel.
First DTM BMW M3 livery revealed
BMW's return to German touring cars starts with Castrol Edge livery

We don't know whether this will be Brit tin-top legend Andy Priaulx's car, however. Even though we spotted the pics in a tweet from him, he says only that they are "first pics of one of our new DTM cars".
Which gives us a choice of six drivers: Andy Priaulx, Augusto Farfus, Joey Hand, Martin Tomczyk, Bruno Spengler and Dirk Muller. The six BMWs will be operated by three teams: Schnitzer, RBM and RMG.
The first race for the return of BMW to DTM will be at Hockenheim in April.
Discussion
True enough. It's a shame BTCC can't come up with something as purposeful and exciting to look at, listen and ultimately watch, something RWD, reasonable capacity, but cost effective to run, somewhere between like DTM, Oz v8, Italian Superstars, but unique in itself and uniquely British that Joe Public, can at least identify with or perhaps aspire to may be more accurate.
Tricky I know.

We need to wait and see hwo 'watchable' these new DTM cars are. The old, overly complicated cars were like watching traffic passing through a contraflow on the M3!"Tricky I know.
At least the BTCC has the odd overtaking move...
We can only hope that the DTM rule makers got it right this time (not the most exciting livery though, is it?)

Not the most exciting livery, indeed (rather predictable I think). At least the BTCC has the odd overtaking move...

Not the best promo shot either: spot the unused tripod light just behind the car?

Agreed on the livery but nice looking supercoupe shell, the A5 coupe looks good as well.Anyway back to the BMW the car does look amazing, that livery does not though IMO!
I wasn't suggesting a British DTM, which is why I mentioned somewhere uniquely British between DTM (manufacturers), Aussie V8s (very simple tech=cheap), Italian Superstars (big cars, big engines cheap-ish, non manufacturer championship). Essentially none of these cars are relevant to the road cars and a little more than silouhettes, the A5 DTM is rear wheel drive, none a5 road range is, ford don't make a v8 saloon in Oz and the homolagation days of run on Sunday sell on Monday are history in the UK. the car of tomorrow in BTCC sounds little more than a silhouette and what is it 1.6 turbos, powering which wheels.
Just saying I find a v8 M3 coupe silouhette more enticing prospect than a front driving Chevy Cruze 1.6turbo silouhette. Now it doesn't have be high tech, aussie v8 are good watch, nor does it have to a v8. A lot of V6 engines sold in the UK, RWD why not, simple tube chassis, coupe bodies. Cheap simple powerful rear wheel drive.
The new btcc cars are 2.0 turbo the wtcc runs the 1.6 turbo. To be honest why would the btcc run v8 it's not at all releveant to road cars how many v8s are sold in this country a lot less than 2.0 turbo and anyway when it becomes full ngtc the cars will be around 330-350bhp i think thats plenty for a touring car.
I don't call either dtm or aussi v8s touring cars.
Back on topic that bmw does look good but what a hidious livery.

Cheap?!
A front-running two car team in Aussie V8's has a budget of around $12m....that's about £8m!!!!!!
A top budget for a top-level two car team in BTCC like Honda would be about £2m.
(thats only around 25% of the budget needed in Australian V8's!)
