I've just found a photo of my first car... Being a stupid snot-nosed little punk back then I never really researched it (and there was no internet then anyway...)

Is it a Series 1?

If so I presume it might now be worth more than the couple of hundred quid I sold it for!?

Erm....yes

And yes.

Sorry!

Do you have any idea what year it was? It's not a very early one, probably mid-fifties ish I would have thought.

I'm not absolutely sure but think it was a '56 or '57. if I remember correctly I spent the money taking a lass to see a band, getting pissed up and staying in a hotel.

Damn it!

Am wondering now if it was an early Series 2 as I'm sure I remember it having the 2.25l petrol engine and I don't think that went into the S1. Could be wrong though...

According to DVLA, that plate is on a Land Rover registered 11-2-1958.....oh, and it's green.

Some ruthless swine painted her green? Oh the humanity, faded custard suited it perfectly!

So '58 would make it a Series 2?

Nope, its definitely a Series 1....one of the last but even so definitely an S1.

Have a look at Google Images and you'll be able to see the differences. The main one is that its quite considerably narrower than an S2, it hasn't got the 'barrel sides' that the S2/S3/ST1V8/Defender has.

Engine wise, it could well have had the 2.25 petrol transplanted at some point or it may have been fitted from the factory - I'm not 100% up on the exact specifications.

Definitely a series 1 either a 86 or 88 wheelbase model .... Say 88 by length of front wings .

No, that's not a Series I Land Rover.

There's no such thing.

There's a Land Rover, introduced in 1948 which was superceded by the Series II Land Rover and then the Series III Land Rover, but there has never been a Series I, it was just called a Land Rover. It's a bit like Elizabeth the first was never called that until our queen was crowned. wink

I bet you always correct people when they refer to the Great War as the "First" World War too?

I think the term Series 1 was added retrospectively by anyone who dealt with Land Rovers and it is used by everyone so I think it can be regarded that there is such a thing as a Series 1.
