How long can you get away with tax but no insurance?
Discussion
Obviously not I'm using it on the road at all.
The problem I have is I bought a Barchetta of a mate who just wanted rid, it was in a bit of a mess so I'm just tiding it up as bit before selling it on (watched too many episodes of wheeler dealers!)
I left it still in his name as he was the only owner on the V5 & he kept his insurance going, but now he has got a new car so has cancelled the Barchetta's insurance
It has a months tax left which would perfect of selling it with, but with that stupid new rule means I now have to either SORN it or fork out for insurance on a car I don't want to drive
I know I could sell it while it's SORNed but I guess it'll be much easer to sell with tax.
I guess with all computer monitoring the DVLA have they'll know right away?

I had several months with no insurance while I was trying to sell a vehicle. It wasn't being used but was still taxed in the garage.
Eventually the motor insurer's bureau wrote to me and advised I should SORN it to avoid a fine from DVLA, so that gave me the kick I needed.
Typically, after no interest in all that time someone came to view it (and bought) about a week after.

That's encouraging - thanks Eventually the motor insurer's bureau wrote to me and advised I should SORN it to avoid a fine from DVLA, so that gave me the kick I needed.
