VIN number and parts identity.

It appears from the experience of a friend with 2litre 190e that giving the VIN for parts ID doesn't always work.His car had been suffering an intermitant cold start problem plus ABS light on dash,diagnosed as a voltage relay issue orders new relay using VIN ,time comes to change the part,yes its different from the one fitted.Part ordered via a main dealer but differed in the number of fuses fitted.So is this just a one off or are there variations in minor parts that dont show when using the VIN as a reference.
PS the act of dismantling and cleaning up contacts seems to have cured the problem!

Probably the old part was superceded and the newer part was supplied. MB Dealer parts people do make mistakes but I would think you have a later, but compatible, part
