With the arrival of a new car, I spent some time today adjusting the pedals / seat to get comfortable and at 6' 2 with a 36 inch inside leg the Griffith is actually very good.

When adjusting the clutch and brake pedals, I remembered that not only can you make quite a lot of adjustment at the pedal end but as the threaded bar that goes into the arms is welded 'off set' to the pedal plate you can also move the pedals left to right, by rotating them 180 degrees. On my car they had closed the gap between the brake and throttle, possibly for so heel and toe action, but I guessing not and it makes it very difficult to drive with size 12s! I suspect that they just did't know. Also, by rotating the clutch pedal through 180 degrees, I was able to move the clutch pedal away from the carpet on the tunnel slightly which also helps.

Judging by the odd set up as I found it, with the pedal faces at odd levels (the clutch is sometime higher due to the amount of travel it needs), I guess that the previous owner had also not known about the slots under the throttle lever mounting bolts that allow some useful adjustment fore and aft on the throttle pedal. I only mention this for those who, like myself might have forgotten about the range of adjustments or are new to the car.

However, one problem I have is that I need to recline the back of the seat, just one more click to get the driving position really spot on but the back then hits the seat belt mechanism behind it and just starts to trap the belt between the carpet and the seat so that the belt will not move freely and the seat back twists

Does anyone know whether it is possible to re position the seat belt mechanism above the seat where the black metal loop is that feeds the belt over the chair (you would need a different orientation of belt mechanism like in the MGB. Or did I hear that if you swap the driver and passenger seats around you have more room at the back of the seat....it was a long time ago. Anyone have the same problem as me? Any ideas?

Try doing a search. I`m sure there was a thread not so long back where someone built a bracket that bolted on where you are refering to and brought the belt forward slightly, thereby making the belt more accesible when putting it on.

Is this any good.
http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a... seat belt extender - would it fit in a Griff?

good post...

last time I was out in the Griff, I got caught in traffic and was reminded how heavy the clutch can begin to feel after an hr's crawling along.

Big part of the problem on my car is the fact that the clutch pedal is also close to the tunnel and operated with the outside of my left foot...

Had thought about a set of Leven pedals with bigger surface area but turning the std pedal 180 to get it away from the tunnel and more centrally under foot might be a big help in the short term.

another job to add to the list wink

Carsy, thanks for the link. I did pick that up in the search, but the problem I have is slightly different in that the seat back is hitting the seatbelt reel which is bolted to the bulkhead behind the seat. I really need to move the seat belt reel from there and place it where the seat belt extenders are bolted to in FFG's car. The pull force in an accident is already taken on the black metal loop behind the drivers head, which must be bolted through to the chassis I am guessing. I was just wondering whether I could relocate a new reel up there. However, seeing some of the ways in which people have held the belt slightly forward, making it easier to retrieve, I might look at that as well. Peter

I haven't got the extender (yet) but do think it would work. Did try and get a crappy one from the Cerb guys to play with but no joy. Need to park next to a Cerb and have a closer look. It is even more frustrating with the CG locks on as there is no gap between the seat and side of the car to get the belt hidden and have already chipped the paint on Andrea's!!

Leven pedals would likely provide a solution on the pedals as they are fully adjustable.

There is currently a post on the S forum from someone who has fitted an extender to try and sort out the seat belt position - not sure if that helps but a neat solution.
