Gritter Pain!

Ok so I've just driven back using a normally cracking B-Road but as I turned out to start my journey a gritter passes in the same direction I'm headed and is spreading. Dilemma.

Do I follow the grit lorry the full 8 miles at a distance (knowing I'm slowly accumulating salt and battering the car slowly) and hope it turns off and the junction to the A-road?

Or at the earliest opportunity blast past to reduce the damage?

Just to add the opposite direction has been gritted for a further 7 miles and would mean over an hour to arrive home.

What would you have done?

do you drive a 1970's Lancia?

If not, stop bloody whining. A light peppering of salt/grit won't damage you car unless they painted it with paint from the Early Learning Centre. If they don't grit and you crash on the ice it will do more damage and you'll be moaning like hell.

Personally i hate the sound of grit hitting the car so i would of put up with the pain for a quick overtake and get it over with personally.

Did just that! Only hesitated as it's my first brand new car.

I'd just have overtaken and carried on my way - perfect paintwork is overrated.

I'd also be surprised if road salt can do much damage to decent paint. It's not particularly dense stuff.

Last week I got gritted 3 times. Once going the other way and twice I was overtaken.

I was on my bike though. Does sting a tad while wearing shorts.

You were in a car. MTFU.

surely hail is just as bad as grit hitting the car so overtake! Or you could blast your horn and tell him to stop gritting for a few seconds

I saw a gritter ahead on a dual-carriageway once and in a moment of blokey-genius, decided that if I passed a gritter at high speed it would significantly decrease the amount of grit that would hit my car, as I'd be in the 'firing line' for just a fraction of a second.

I won't do it again. It made a bloody awful noise.

My early 1990's Porsche has been chipped on the front from a gritter lorry on a motorway.

It can, and does, damage cars.

All depends what your driving and how much you value your car.I personally hate the fkers but dont think I could sit behind one for that long.

I'd have sat further back (vehicle lacks poke) and let someone else overtake me and block my car from the grit noise... if it was irritating me anyway.
