Golf VR6 GTI Engineering and Range Rover Classic Projects
Discussion
Firstly i will introduce the Golf VR6, also nicknamed Lucy Lu on a drunken night out by may mate who owned it before and after me,
Its Quite a special car this, as it had been sent to GTI Engineering /BBR for a Super Plus Pac engine upgrade when it was around a year old, which consisted on gasflowed/ported cylinder head, highlift cams, flowed throttle body, chip, modified airbox and panel filter, it made for a rather swift VR6, and after owning several of these since, i have yet to come across another that has a top end like this one, still running standard valves and inlet manifold. My mate has a VR6 with a big valve head and Schrick manifold its better than this but not massively
I also found in my ownership first time round it had been treated to a full boge suspension kit, eibach ARBs and a 288mm front brake upgrade from a later car (this car originally had 280mm brakes fitted)
Anyways i sold it in 2004 to my mate whom i originally bought it from, i spent a few £££ in my ownership making things right, and getting it mint again, this included Koni TA Suspension kit, Brand new boxed BBS wheels, GTI Edition Recaros, Anniversary fogs/indicators, paint, etc
However time hasnt been kind, she was sold in 2005/6 when my mate moved to singapore and the downward spiral began
Fast forward to today, and my mate Mark calls, and tells me to get on to Gumtree as Lucy Lu is there, Had this just been a "normal" VR6 i wouldnt have bothered even looking at it, but with the engine conversion still present and rather rare, to date i have only seen 1 other car with it, i decided to bite the bullet and go see it, shes rough now but everything is still there and im hoping with a little light recommissioning she will live again

And heres her being taken home on the back of the truck today

I had a quick look over it today, and so far i can see the following needing attention,
Brakes Inop, Handbrake sticky, Grommets on floor rotten, Both doors and bootlid shot, NSR Arch trim missing, NSR Stub axle bent, Rear tints require removing immediately, exhaust leaking, breather burst, and thats all i can remember at the moment
I have managed to pick up an 8v GTI for scrap money with good panels etc so this will help keep costs down
Onto the Range Rover Classic,I love these and have always wanted one, and in particular a soft dash model really appealed more than an earlier one, this was advertised before Xmas on a local VW forum and i knew the owner, anyways a housemove and the associated hassle got in the way of buying it and i thought it had sold, another friend, who is also called Mark gave me a call and told me it had popped back up for sale, we went and looked at it, decided we both wantec it so went halfs on it, currently a non runner as we need a starter (anyone have one?) and its needing MOTd which it should pass with very little issues as its solid underneath, honest.
These are some old pictures where its still on Air, but its been converted to Coils, other than that its still as it is in the pics with the CSK wheels, Rimmer Bros full stainless exhaust including the manifolds so it sounds rather fruity
Inside is perfect, no saggy headlining, all the seats work, period Nokia handsfree kit, all original CD Changer and Tape deck headunit, genuine Land Rover carpet AND rubber overmats.
It was an absolute steal at £650 so we couldnt say no
Heres some pictures
