So when I picked up my F10 M5 last month I noticed in the showroom the orange peel was quite bad! Told the dealer I would take it but would be in touch regarding it!
I am now waiting for a BMW regional Rep/Manager to have a look at the car and see if it "falls within BMW's standard/acceptable finish". Now I am fussy with my cars and don't think it is acceptable so will be pushing for the car to be sorted out with a good detailing company like KDS for a flat and polish.
I have read a few things regarding poor finishes on E92 M3's and BMW paying for the paint to be sorted but just wondered if anyone on here had managed to get BMW to pay for the work to be done?

Noticed the same on a 72k list price M3 the other week. Shocking quality

Both E92's I've had have had pretty bad orange peel, my E46 paint was immaculate.

From what I've read a good detailer can polish the orange peel out and the results are very good, not sure about price for a full paint correction though.

I just bought a 3.5 year old e92 m3, and the paint is very orange peely. I checked various BMW's some brand new , some a few years old and they all suffered from the same issue.

I'm talking to a detailer about this issue, and he says it to do with EU rules not allowing solvent based paint, apparently cars sprayed outside the EU can still use solvent based paint so still have a nice finish.

Mines going in for a full paint correction (wet sand etc) in a few weeks to correct the swirls that have built up over the years and the orange peel.

You'd really need to wet sand rather than polish the orange peel out - I imagine you're looking at min £1k but it will transform the look of the car.

Apparently the paint woes started when they switched to powder coating the cars.

Can't knock KDS - they are top notch - but BM should pay!

I must admit I like the orange peel effect, gives depth to the paint. A flat finish looks exactly that, flat and cold.

Eh? Orange peel detracts from depth. Clearly not a serious comment.

You are obviously someone that does not know what you are on about, as clearly highlighted in KDS's pics.

Your first mistake was accepting the car.

Good luck getting them t sort it out.

ps what's the car like to live with?

ALWAYS amazed at the finish on that Nissan truck Kelly. Not very exotic but may be your best work Kelly.
