Advice needed on ex plodmobile
Discussion
Morning all, its early and im sipping on my coffee debating and can't decide.
Went to see an ex plod direct from the cop shop yesterday got the price so a small £2100 133k on the clock full history and the usual stuff. Lookd great outside, pulls like a train and goes like a stabbed rat, only issues are its a cat d and the interior is a mess, worse than your usual plod car, all in all it needs a alternator or regulator as thats on its last legs, new drivers seat and center console, i must say am tempted by its but am unsure if am being honest. Also forgot to add it does come with 6 months parts and labour which is a little tempting aswell. Also its an 07 reg so not THAT old.
Worth it or not? Your views please.

^^^ barring the fact that it's waft-amatic.
The 2007 one would seem better on age. BUT:

> do you plan on ever selling it, or just run it into the ground?
Engine wise, from personal experience...... IT'LL NEVER DIE!
2001 plate C70 had 180k+ on it at 5years old and was perfect.
When with a bunch of car mates, I covered the mileage with a bit of tape, and asked them to guess what it'd done........ Guesses were flying in at 50-60k miles. 187 at the time IIRC. Even after a 4hour journey in it, they were none the wiser

Interior wise aka seats will cost me about 100£ good friend of mine has literally just rang me, works in a scrap yard and has just had a front end v70 with all the trim i need. Alternator am guessing would cost about £200 to replace but would be willing to give it a go myself.. I mean, how hard can it be?..

So for £2500 you'd have a 2007 T5 manual?
.......thats been thrashed from cold regulary, rammed other cars possibly, driven up over pavements, been over speed bumps at 60mph+,lugged two fat t
ts around continuosly and been overloaded with doughnuts and smells of bacon.Would need to be cheaper than that!

Oh behave.

The police do a f
k load of checks. And their cars are maintained REALLY WELL.
Having known police mechanics, I know how well stuff gets looked after.
No different from buying a corsa from a 20year old lass, who's never serviced it and thrashed the plums off it in 1st 2nd and 3rd.
As for it's damage, thats bugger all.
Sounds to me like a good base project for a nice, reliable barge
I would much rather buy the 2002 one than the ex-police one for the simple fact that its a clean tidy car - not hacked and abused by a multitude of drivers on a daily basis. Its a clean example with what looks to be a shed load of service history.
By the time you replace the bits you need on the police vehicle it will be another £300-400 for parts and labour when you can buy one straight with low miles against its age for the same money.
