Connecting the earth lead for a jump start?

Ok, easy for the positive because it attaches to the battery, but where do you attach the earth?

Mine is navy blue paint Not a good earth.

Engine block. Yeah right. Do you actually have a Cerbera? Would sir like to point me as to where exactly you can see enough engine block, let alone get a jump lead to attach?

The air con. compressor is at the front of the engine above the V, driven by a belt. Use that for a negative point as it is bolted to the engine which is earthed. Job done

I meant block in the non technical term 'something solid in the centre of the engine' Does the Aircon pump housing have a lug on it?

Use the rocker cover bolt for my Optimate, but am still struggling to find a jump lead point!!

Ok, on the back of the compressor around the circumference there is a lug sticking out with a hole through it I guess 10mm or so in diameter. I stick the negative lead on there - a nice meaty bit of metal so it's ideal.

Don't pull the jump leads off too quick after the jump start, let the alternator charge the flat battery up a bit first. Explained at the bottom of this document -http://www.blazingweb.co.uk/406/BSI_Info.pdf I've never done this technique with creating load on the alternator before disconnecting the leads though.
