I was wondering if anyone could help. I have recently bought a Cayman R, and it has the sports exhaust, and sports chrono package plus. Does the switch for the exhaust just make it louder, or is there added performance? I apologise in advance if being a bit dim!

just the exhaust, you also have a sports button.

depending how it's configured the sport button can also open the flap.

Thank you both, I suspected as much, it's odd not sure I would have specified it, but now I have it on the car I love it!

Once you've run the thing in and heard it at full chat with PSE on vs. PSE off, you'll be glad you specified it smile

Now you know it adds no power it may seem pointless but - having bought a used Porsche that has Sport, PASM and PSE buttons - I can tell you it is the PSE that I use by far the most and therefore the one I would spec if I could only afford one of them..!

I agree with you, it sounds pointless, a button just to make noise, its the first button my wife hits when she drives it as well! Thanks for your advice!

TBH, I've always wondered why Porsche don't make PSE standard, and have a quiet 'night time' button to turn it off when you want to make a little less noise. But in day to day driving, why would you not want it?

Yes yes, alright, I had a naive moment there!

whistle

I still think everyone should have PSE, and I'm fed up with having to explain to everyone(sorry OP, no offence meant!) that no, it doesn't change the performance, and yes, it really just makes the car louder. Then they give me that 'really??' look. OK, my 997 is a boys toy, but it just gives people a chance to rub my nose in it!

I think what you mean is to have the exhaust sound on PSE enabled as default and have to press a button to turn it off. I know on Spykers the default is ON (which is the way it should be)

Yes, I think that's what I said.... wink

Not driven a Spyder, but on 911s you have to switch it on each time you start the engine (unless - before anyone else says it - you unplug the brown thing in the engine bay, in which case it is permanently on, apparently. Not tried it myself).

I assumed it did default to 'on'. I have a 2003 996 and when I leave the garage early in the morning I turn the ignition on, hit the PSE button so it lights up and is hence turned off, start the engine and away I go. I turn PSE back on 100 yards down the road because I'm not bothered about the next village.

Definitely the other way round on the 997....press the button, the light comes on, the baffles open and the exhaust gets louder....
