Do you wave motorcyclist by?
Discussion
I don’t ride a motorbike as the other half won’t let me
But I will always move to the side and wave a motorcyclist by. For some reason the appreciative little wave or thumbs up as he or she rides past always makes me feel good about myself, strange I know but there you go. Carry on....

Yep, always let them by.
It's just common courtesy... and it's not like you're going to get stuck behind a bike is it?
Exactly, which is why I tend to let them out of junctions too where possible. Ditto any sports car or hot hatch. Very unlikely they're going to hold me up!It's just common courtesy... and it's not like you're going to get stuck behind a bike is it?

I once overtook a guy on some kind of superbike in my 1.3 Fiesta. He was dawdling, otherwise it would have been impossible, but the look of shock on his face as I went by was priceless. It's just common courtesy... and it's not like you're going to get stuck behind a bike is it?

But generally, I always try and appreciate when other road users will use the road differently; not just bikes, but things like not getting onto a roundabout at the same time as an artic as they need a lot of space for swinging round. It's just a(n un)common courtesy.

This. I will move across my lane as much as possible for them so they have more room, usually get an acknowledgement. Many moons ago I was in slow moving traffic and I kept moving over, then I noticed the guy behind me also started doing it. For some reason that really cheered me up.
I used to always do this... I am 35 now and passed my test when 17... have owned and ridden bikes on and off road for years... do not own one at the minute though...
More recently, I do not tend to move over as I got fed up of getting over, only to have a bike, lights blazing in my wing mirror (often full beam, or aftermarket spots for the "triangle of light") and proceed to sit there... not passing me... about one foot from my back bumper...
So now, unless in traffic, or slow moving queues I stick to concentrating on my own driving rather than trying to get out of the way of a motorbike.

If I can make it clear by my positioning that I'm aware of them and willing to be passed, I will. I don't wave or signal though - it's their decision to pass, not mine.
The little wave of thanks is great though, isn't it?
Yep, always move over to acknowledge them and drive at the pace I normally would and let them overtake if they want. The little wave of thanks is great though, isn't it?
Did not appreciate the bike that overtook me at 40+ mph in a very busy Stansted village (30 mph) at a time when the school buses were doing the rounds so kids about every where.
After cuting me up when he dived back into the lane before a keep left sign in the middle of the road, he then over took another 3 cars that were all slowing to let out a car from the left - biker was INCREDIBLY lucky the person pulling out saw him/her IMO.
Once had a couple of bikers out for a friday evening blast on some country roads, one got past me before a bend leaving his mate behind me for a couple miles of complex bends with no over taking points so had a little hoon with them unti lthe roads straightened up and I got left behind in the traffic. The bloke gave a thumbs up as he shot past.
Massive respect for the majority of bikers though, I couldn't do it myself given how much I'm ignored in my VX - can't iamgine what it's like on a bike.
Had a few incidents of people waving me by in the VX but there has been one face palm moment...
Literally just turned right onto a country road behind her and then she puts her brakes AND THEN starts indicating left (no left turn for 5 miles) and stuck her arm out the window.
She stopped just before a bend where the view of oncoming vehicles is far from clear and on the bend was a right turning towards my village which I turned down - I noticed in my mirror she immediately carried straight on. Numpty.
