Doing 24k miles per year, mixed roads what mpg would you get from an a4 1.8t petrol fwd? Would 18ppm cover the fuel is essentially what I need to know? It's the new a4 on a 61 plate. Thanks

You'll need about 35mpg. Should be possible.

My old engined 1.8t passat does about 33-35 MPG, against a combined of 34.4. The new generation one is supposed to be quite frugal. On a run, i reckon 40+ MPG if you dont throat it...

Thanks. I reckon 33 mpg at 1.30 per litre is about break even. Diesel sadly not available. Would I get it if I drove fairly briskly do you think? Thanks again.

realistically it's down to how much town and how much 'open road' driving you'll do. Mid 30's are achievable on A roads / motorways. Too much town driving and you'll be down to the late 20's..

Mainly motorway 50-80 mile journeys each way. Think if I use a Tesco clubcard and credit card that could offset things too!smile

Colour?

Black cars heat up quicker so cut the air better in sunlight.

Saves a couple of MPG.

Out of my MK4 Golf GTI 5 speed I average about 37mpg over a tank, which is about 70-80% motorway driving, not going over 70mph and cruising at around 65mph and not booting it about....

So I would say work it for about 30-35 mpg out of an A4 just to be safe then sorry.... smile

Is this a "new" 18t motor or based on the old mk4 golf lump?

If so, and it is ko3 turboed, i'd be surprised if you get much more than high 20s mpg out of it.

The larger turbo models seemed to do better as they were less restrictive on cruise, but having had various versions of the old motor, best I ever got was about 26mpg overall, tank to tank, the computers were optomistic.

Went well, mind you, for a 1.8, but frugal they were not.

Off set it with a Santander 123 cash back credit card, you get cash back on fuel, then go to Shell only stations and collect the points, if you fill reguarly you will get fuel vouchers.

So says the man who commutes 116 miles daily in a 2.5 Subaru Legacy Estate and drives a RX-8 on the weekends! There are many ways to not drive diesel.

Trouble is that card has a 24 quid annual fee. Plus fuel cashback limited. Doesn't the Tesco clubcard credit card work out better?
