I hope this both assists and encourages people to try importing. Stressful it most certainly is but after you've got yourself a car for two thirds the price you'll pay here, it's all worth it. I'll add some links for electrical connectors and the SVA manual shortly although if you follow this, it'll pass.

I'll be honest and say that my comparison is for a Z06 so there is no European equivalent other then the £50k being asked by importers. The new C5 prices are now tumbling and I've seen a new Z06 being offered for $39k. I haven't done the sums for the standard C5 but from what I recall you could most certainly get a year or two newer for the equivalent UK price.
The difficulty is that advertised prices and paying prices aren't always the same on either side of the Atlantic so it's hard to be definitive. I think the Z06 offers the biggest margin for saving a large percentage.

We've had a query on the CCCUK website re the impact of tampering with the wiring to disable daytime running lights, plus the other mods?

I'm running a modified Vert in Las Vegas which I've been converting already for my eventual return to UK. I pulled the A2 fuse to disable the DRLs with no adverse effects.
My plan is to fit the T85 headlights (already have them)which have an integral sidelight. I plan to run an additional circuit in parallel with the existing orange sidelight in the stock cluster.
Its working fine. The reprog advice sounds like BS IMHO.

You're welcome. I'd pull the A2 fuse for starters and see how that goes. If not there is a fix on the Forum documented by a German member by installing a bridge.

I pulled the two relays in the passenger footwell and inserted two bridges and have had ZERO problems with it. This is widely available on the web so I haven't included it on my web page.
A friend of mine has now imported a 2003 mint condition torch red Z06 and will be using my web page as I'm on honeymoon in Zanzibar at the moment and it's searing heat and non-stop white sand. I know, I know, why am I on the web? Because it gets a bit much after 12 days of baking heat. Amazing holiday though.

I'll post this here too as it may help when submitting your car for an ultra-picky SVA test and give some moral support concerning headlamps:
My mate just had his SVA test done (at Pontyclun) on his 2003 Z06 by a guy who made Hitler look lenient. LOL. He picked him up on running the foglight wire across the boot floor and made him tack it round the outside of the boot. Some of his wiring he wanted secured at least every 30cm and he wanted to see the handbook to check the tyres on the car were the original fitment.
He also didn't like the rear light connector in the rear wheelwell which is standard!
He also insisted on testing the brakes despite the FMVSS sticker "to check the ABS was working".
The point I'm making is that despite the tester being ultra ultra picky, my mate never touched the headlamps and they passed without mention.

I also disabled the DRL's using this link, and it worked fine. I "modified" four regular male spade terminals with my tin snips to make up the jumpers (see the link) and it fitted a treat. All good stuff - great advice. I think the process may be different for EU-spec cars than for US-spec, though... mine's a US car.
Passed the SVA test today, so I can breathe now. The guy was very sensible and reasonable (at Mitcham) although he also mentioned about cable tying (or somehow attaching) all loose wires every 12" max, although he was pragmatic about it. Everything else was whizzo, so thanks for all the advice, particularly Wayne...
On the subject of messin' with the electrics, I found no problems at all disconnecting the battery and tapping into the lighting circuits etc., in fact I had to do that many times. The computer has had no problems with any of the mods I have done, so hopefully we can lay that little myth to bed.
p.s. One other little snippet was that he couldnt find a quality mark on the moornroof panel I had in, but he was relaxed about it. On that basis, if you have a choice I'd say fit the solid roof if you have a) a coupe and b) both roofs.

Cheers Richard... just need to get it registered now! I arrived at Brighton DVLA at 16:45 today to find skeleton staff, so couldnt get it done. Bah! Roll on next week, hopefully be on the road Wednesday-ish. You can probably guess what my plate will be...
I confess to hoofing it just a little a bit on the way to the test today (with no number plates!) - blimey, it pulls like a train in 2/3/4; not at all reminiscent of my old C3! Different beast altogether. Fantastic.
p.s. Got pulled twice on the way to the test (when I was cruising - M23 and Purley), no grief once I told them where I was going. Almost made me late though!
p.p.s. Is the Yank meet on Sundays the Bournemouth clifftop one?
