why are there no track days at the track at east fortune. looked at it on google maps and it looks like a good wee Sunday track day. cant be because of noise cos the market has helicopters tacking of every Sunday and microlights buzzing about.

Allegedly cars were too noisy on a track day many years ago, hence they don't run them any more. Not a very credible position though as they run bike races and also operate it for aircraft. It really is Scotland's forgotten track, despite being longer than Knockhill and being within an airfield that has the possibility of a hosting a much bigger circuit.

Local retired lawyer kicked up a stink with regards to noise issues. Now they run only a few days and just for the bike club.

Being a bike track and having spent a small fortune resurfacing a few years back the other reason was that I believe they were concerned with surface damage cars would cause.

Real shame as it's a great track. Did a track day there about 6 years ago or so, and loved it.

Btw- no danger a track day would get noise complaints next to the bike racing. What a noise that is when they leave the grid -like thunder but way louder!! Awesome.

Another forgotten track must be Ingliston. I remember watching Singer Chamois, Escorts and Firenzas battling it out there in the early 70s.

Ingliston was being used one of the last times I visited Edinburgh last year by Exhilerate Scotland with their Focus RS, DB9 Volante, 997 Turbo, Ferrari 430 Spyder and Gallardo coupe

Yes, I was regular there in the 70's 80's

The last time would be in 1991 when I did a drivers day course, 10 laps in a Formula Ford sigle seater and 10 laps in my 90 quattro. A great wee circuit, shame it's not in use for racing any more.

There were sprint events at Ingliston 2010 and 2011, unfortunately it has been cancelled this year.

Not much use for track days now though as there is a grandstand on what was the start/finish of the track.

I live nearby the east fortune track, and I dont think cars would even come close to the noise that the bikes make.....

You go past the track on the east coast main line when coming in to Edinburgh, looks like a stunning little circuit.

Correct. Also I reckon that it just wouldn't be considered 'safe' these days due to the lack of run off, proximity of trees etc.

I can personally recall at least 2 fatalities at the esses, and at least one episode of a car ending up inside the public loos just after south stand.

It was a fantastic racing era though biggrin

We have knockhill and crail. Not a fan of knockhill my self, crail is more a 1/4 than track. We need a good cheap wee track for Saturday and Sunday track days and owners clubs to use and book. East fortune is ideal . Shame its a no go for cars

Is that a track or rally cross circut. Never seen so many stones being thrown up! But nice to see a track up there. May put a bra on the GTE and pop up there this summer

Sorry but the 'track' at Ingliston today looks nothing like those historic racing pics. Compare like for like and you will see East Fortune is about 1 million times better than the current Ingliston 'track'. Any effort to have car track days reinstated should be directed to the former.
