Certain cars need to be in certain colours. Certain cars should never be in certain colours.

I spotted a yellow AMV8 this morning and I thought it most definitely fell into the latter category.

I just don't think it works.

Whereas this... really, really does;

I guess the point of my thread is to discuss cars and colours but also to ask your opinion on this...

I can't get my head around it, my old man has got one being delivered on March 1st, Alpine White 4.0d M Sport with majority of option boxes ticked. I agree with him that the X5 needs to be a bold colour, black or white was his thinking, and 'everyone has a black one'.

Looks good in black but I think the white one is growing on me. Am I mad? Not that it matters what I think...

One car that I think has to be white is;

I see white as a colour that goes in and out of fashion but the BMW dealership we use have said that it's bucking the trend and has been in fashion for a number of years now and they expect it to continue.

My immediate response to my father was that if it does go out of 'fashion' then you're going to have issues selling in a couple of years. Black won't go out of fashion.

So let's see which cars you think work and don't work in particular colours.

  • Yes, I'm a tiny bit bored.

That cossie should only be white if it is having the tiger stripes put on it!

I remember reading Auto Express back in 1998, and some smug car dealer 'expert' had been interviewed for a feature on car colours. He went on to say "never buy a white car, white was in fashion in the 80s and it will NEVER be back into fashion, no-one wants a white car and ever will!"

Then we see over the early 2000s that these American kids getting brand new white X5s and Mercs - plus the whole white iPod thing and now it's the colour of choice to look trendy...the new black as it were.

I think it will quite soon go back out of fashion and reappear in 2030 as the colour of choice on our eco-electric-hybrid-hydrogen-solar-box.

PS ; Astons should not be yellow.

I think that yellow Aston looks lovely.

I agree about the Ferrari though. I don't know why so many people buy Ferraris in red, they almost always look better in yellow, IMO.

Don't like silver, grey or white on any car and I'm not a great fan of black on most, either.

I'll have to let father know that he will be driving a white X5 for the next 18 years!

I'm not a fan of red cars normally but if I was buying a Ferarri, they just look better in red.

I'm not keen on the Aston in yellow, but agree the Ferrari looks nice in yellow. For me though, Ferrari's in the norm have to be red. Don't know why, they just look right.
I like the Escort cossie in white, but it looked great in blue and red also.
Don't like X5's full stop, so they all look horrid to me.
I like white, silver and blue cars mostly. And I like green too!

NO car should ever be pink though!!! That is wrong on so many levels!

Opposite for me, I like the yellow Aston, not keen on the yellow ferrari, it'd look better in grey IMO

I'd argue it has gone out of fashion already. A colour that is called everything except brown is the current favorite when revealing a new car.

I like the yellow Aston. Also I can't think of a car that looks "wrong" in blue scratchchin

Give it two years. People will be saying "what on earth was I thinking". My dad had a brown Mk.V Cortina, everyone thought it looked stunning when it first came out. Three years down the line and he had to explain to people that it was a company car and not his choice of colour.

All those "lifestyle" colour cars you see out and about? It's one of those.

I think the yellow Aston looks fantastic!

I doubt I'm the only person who gets very bored of the "trendy" colours and don't care if people really believe that a brown car is 2012, it will always look poo to me.

It's all about personal taste. If you like it, you like it. I don't like some colours on some cars either.

I've never understood why anyone would want a Vauxhall (think I have only ever seen the Vectra) in this colour.
