Have a set of mid 90's vintage Castle Durhams that I use as rear speakers in an AV set up...the poly cones on the mid/bass units have cracked up so I'm looking to either re-cone (expensive) or replace the drivers. A lot of Castle speakers used 135mm units that are fairly easy to find substitutes for; these are 130s however (the four-cornered form, with curved sides), which are no-where near as common. Long shot but anyone know of a source for decent hifi drivers in this size?

Give Wilmslow Audio a call.
They do repairs, replacement drive units etc. Very helpful.

Did try Wilmslow as my first port of call... unfortunately they don't keep anything suitable in this form and size

Thanks; sadly, I think that series used the 135mm unit I mention earlier, the later ones used a slightly smaller driver. I really want to repair rather than replace the entire speakers as the cabinets are perfect and they work well etc

I did once have a set of this type and the seller is spot on with his claims; they were great little units smile

Shame but rear channel doesn't need great quality.

Sad to say but replacement is the most likely option.

Try getting drivers for Royds for real fun.

Boultons in Yarmouth are likely to be able to carry out repairs http://www.audioloudspeakers.co.uk/boultons.shtml

Try contacting Castle direct, if you really want to keep them

I have some early Durhams (paper coned) and there is a slight tear in one. I contacted them a few years ago, and they could replace it (I think it was about £50).

As someone else mentioned, just get some cheap bookshelf speakers, and sell the Durhams on ebay for spares.
