Checking insurance details on a car?

I'm sure I've seen links/advice on here before on how to check if a car's insured based on it's registration, but can't find them on a search...

I'm looking to find the insurance details (and other details if possible) on a car that did a hit and run on me this morning. I was cycling at the time.
