I've just received an email from BMW to tell me that Value Servicing has been extended to cover E46 M3s and E39 M5s. The prices seem reasonable (albeit more than most decent specialists) if you're inclined to keep up your FBMWSH or need to for insured warranty purposes.

Doesn't look any cheaper than I pay now for my Z4MC (which has the same servicing as the e46 M3).

Don't forget that it's up to the individual dealership as to whether they offer the value servicing or not. Same as the FourPlus scheme that seems to have stopped, although some dealerships are doing their own scheme - yet still seem as expensive as other who are not offering the claimed 20% discount.

My dealer offers a 3-pluse, 4-plus, and so on discount. The older the car the less you pay per hour.

I knew the oil service was a rip, but st me, £170 for literally an oil change.

Thats actually very reasonable. The oil alone would cost you £90 from Opie. Add to that a filter, any other minor ancils and an hours labour.............

Out of interest, what oil / how much?

When you put it like that it's very good.

They've gone UP since I last looked at dealer servicing for an E39 M5.... so am not sure where the "value" kicks in...maybe the cakes and coffee have improved ...

Personally I'll stick with my indy and pocket the difference thank you very much (approx £60 on the oil service, approx £150 on the Insp 1 and £200 on Insp 2)...

Castrol Edge 10w-60. Made esp for M3 cars. Think its about 8-10 litres.

Just for the record, I had my M5 looked after by a trusted Indy and wouldn't go near a BMW dealer. However, there are a few E46 M3 & E39 M5 owners out there who may well want to keep the FBMWSH going for their extended warranty or resale values, that was my point.

Guys remember the dealers won't be putting in 10/60 to the E39 M5's......it's no longer the oil BMW spec for the E39 M5!

There has been some speculation that only the early E39s should use 10/60, and the later cars with the modified piston rings should use 5/30, but I've never seen any confirmation of it. My dealer always puts 10/60 in mine, which is a later one, and it hasn't caused any problems.

No I use Scotthall in southampton. Wouldn't trust Wood with a mobilty scooter.

Got a link to this, either of you?

Without starting the massive oil debate I think all of them should be run on 10/60. I've always run my 2002 on it.

I'm not sure where the link was. There's several discussions running on it on the M5Board.

I've never heard anyone suggesting 5W-30 with any M engine.

That's worth knowing! Thanks.
