Where is the 10bhp difference in Spyder versus CaymanR?
Discussion
The R uses an exhaust with a bigger exhaust inlet tube.
This tube has a diameter of 55mm towards 48mm for any other 987-2, including Spyder.
From the press info of the Cayman R :
“Aiding in achieving the higher power peak of 7,400 rpm is the Cayman R exhaust system with a larger-diameter exhaust section between the catalysts and mufflers.”
This is not really “new” technology as they have had this kind of exhausts with 55mm tubes in the early production years of the 987 Boxster (MY’05).
The bigger tube does indeed create extra HP but I doubt if this will be +10HP….

So if the difference is simply a exhaust inlet tube, how much would one be for the Spyder (if it will fit) and would it really be worth the +10bhp?
When I test drove both cars (24 hours each) I actually found the Cayman R more powerful, yet I doubt that was down to the extra bhp but more likely the conditions etc, but it was only afterwards I noticed the comments about the flat spot and actually realised that the feeling of turbo lag (without the turbo) was there on the Cayman R and did feel a little strange.
Ekona - if I lost any more weight I doubt I'd be able to climb in over the buckets
Khushy - Yep, I did wonder afterwards what the hell I was thinking with that title!

The Spyder is advertised as 320bhp, where as the CaymanR is 330bhp. Any ideas where the increase is gained and how much it would cost to match it (in the Spyder)?
I think you have to ask yourself honestly, would you notice a 3% increase in power over part of the powerband? If you can, you are uber-sensitive.Just enjoy the car.

i have also wondered this plus where does the carrera 3.4 gen2 345hp/991 350hp get their extra power from? or is it a different bore/stroke? 350hp would be nice in the spyder!

Completely different engine!
not sure its a completly different engine same block, some internals etc as 3.4/3.8/turbo.
must be a head job,map and exhaust

you can get 333BHp from a remap, and about 15BHp from decatting the rear section.
add in a Vflow filter and may as well fit the IPD plenum and you should be seeing close to 345Bhp with 285ft/lbs imo
If you have the light weight V of the Spyder add in a dry cell battery and Ti Exhaust ie no AC/Radion/NAV you should be about 280BHp/ton with mods and less weight.
now that's worth having :-) (note that's more than a the mk1/mk2 GT3 and up with the 996 GT3 RS)
Fit some Cups/R888's and go and shock some cars at your local track day
