Focus 2.0l ghia running trouble!

my ford focus 2.0l ghia is having major troubles, it puts the battery light on below 2k revs then after minutes of driving it puts the abs light and traction controll light on, then the fun starts, the engine loses all power and intermittantly gives you throttle when it wants to as the engine slowly dies, the fuel mix smells very rich, seemed to be struggeling for air removed the air filter to no differemce. i personally think it needs an alternator and a battery?
would be greatful for any help!!

Could be alternator. Do you notice the headlamps start to dim and wipers getting slower as it happens?
Also, does it start ok afterwards, or is it dead?

i didn't notice the lights or the wipers, its killing the battery because theres not enough power to crank after jumping and removing the leads straight away it runs for about 3/4 of a mile then slowly dies and goes through the symptoms again iv had a sheep meter on it and the charging voltage goes off the scale, cant find alot about them on the net but alternators are fairly cheep so im presuming this is a common fault?? not too sure.
