Has anyone else got this yet? It was released on Monday.
Very impressed so far, mixing the slow, haunting sound of Video Games and Born to Die with more upbeat almost Lady Ga Ga style songs.
Really good album, the second song (Off to the Races) is my favorite so far, and Radio is good also.

Blue Jeans and Born to Die are my favourites but every single track has some catchy element to it and it's been a long time since I've been able to say that about an album. I don't read the music press any more but caught on from this forum that things had gone sour somewhere recently - her past history/not all she's cracked up to be/ pulling out of appearances etc etc.
So, instantly likeable music - probably sell shedloads then.

However what I have done is checked the writing credits, and it's quite clear that she did not have full creative control over the album given that 9 other people have writing credits on there. So my comment regarding balding middle aged producers making the record stands. They may have made an excellent record, I'm not denying that, but it wasn't recorded alone in Miss Grant's bedroom.

Well no. And some indie albums aren't either these days. The "packaging" has been done very well in this case. She is however not the best singer in the world from the bits I've heard (technically and in terms of vocal range anyway), and didn't write a significant proportion of the record.
It's very rare to find someone who is the "real deal" and has both the performing and songwriting skills. As I said, from what I've heard it's very good, but I get the impression she was in the right place, at the right time, with the right producers.

Not really, if she didn't have any real talent she wouldn't have got this far. Can she sing? yes, can she write? yes, did she have a lot of help with writing and production on this album? yes but so what? It's hardly Milli Vanilli smoke and mirrors is it.
It's a semantic argument; she has real talent for songwriting and singing, but she is not "a real talent" in the way the recording industry would use the term. It's a subtly different meaning.Agree with what your saying there Dave, but I think your looking at it too deeply. It's the same as what the music journolists are doing. It's a great album, one of the best that I have bought in the last year. That's all.
If we look back in 5 years and realise that she's another Dido that has faded away, oh well. At least we have this album to listen to.
Truly great talents who sing,write and sweat their own amazing music are a rare thing these days. And without BBC 6 music, I doubt we would ever hear any of it. I'm currently enjoying Lykke Li and The Do's.
