Jaguar Gartrac Gear Box

Jaguar Gartrac Gear Box
Looking for some guidance guys.
The 1968 Jag 340 has a manual 4 speed all sincro gearbox is making a few nasty sounds under acceleration in second every once and a while. So have been thinking of swapping this out.
Now then I have also now got a XJ6 (X300) which is willing to donate its 5 speed manual box to help.
Can you all see where this is going… quite keen to get a 5 speed box into the 340, so dose any one know if the gartrac box from the X300 will fit the 340 with out too much hassle? Know there will be some messing about to get a prop shaft made to fit etc. But the X300 is complete (bar the fount end) so will have a full set of parts?
Any info would be much appreciated.

I suspect that the X300's bell housing and mounting are all going to be totally different. You'd probably be better off looking for a 5 speed box from a SIII XJ6, which would have the correct mountings to fit onto the XK engine in the 340... or you could go the whole hog and fit the bigger valved 4.2 engine complete with the gearbox :-)
Back when X300s were current, manuals weren't popular, the dealers used to hate them as when they came in as part exchange they couldn't shift them.
These days people are becoming more interested in manual XJRs, so the bits from your X300 to make it all work with the manual box might be of more interest to someone wanting to convert the more common auto XJR to being a manual.
Just a thought (or two)
