Filling up last night, the guy in front (11 plate SLK) left his door wide open with the keys in the ignition while he sauntered off to pay for his fuel and bag of crisps in the shop. No passenger in the car.

Why on earth would you do this rather than shut the door/take the keys with you?

Any other strange behaviour at the pumps?

I once found a guy in my local petrol station polishing and waxing his car next to one of the pumps. The attendant said it was quite common.

If you wanted it to be nicked!

Strangest behaviour I see is also the commonest: people who don't move their cars out of the way after they've filled up, and there's a queue.

I don't mean drive off, I mean when there are car length spaces between pumps you can 'park' in.

We once saw a guy beating up his girlfriend and saying he would slit her throat (he even had the knife at her throat). It was lakeside shopping though, so to be expected. Eventually he bundled her in their car and drove off though.

I went into a Shell station last night and wanted to buy a jerry can and some fuel to go in it.

The shop was an M&S branded outlet and while I could buy all manner of fancy foods, they did not stock a carrier for petrol.... mad

Saw a woman park square in the centre of two rows of pumps (not even at a pump, which would have been stupid and selfish enough anyway) blocking people from exiting the pumps on both sides behind, to use an ATM machine and do a shop at a busy station.

She didn't see what all the fuss was about when she came back out to chaos. Some people are prize, selfish pillocks.

ah yes, that's because she said, kiss me where it smells different and make me moan smile

not a thing a person did, but the bp near me makes a big thing about having licensed premises and selling booze. just seems odd to me really smile

Actually one other thing. A guy said he was going to pour petrol on me and set fire to me for apparently me not letting him push in front of me in the queue. Short man sydrome i figured, only a wee chap. Anyway, he didnt have the balls to in the end, he just eyeballed me and hyperventilated for a while, then got in his repmobile and schreeced off.

Did the site have a wash bay?

Maybe the driver had washed the car and was just finishing the job. Not quite sure they should park next to the pumps while they do it, maybe using the overhead lights to see what he was doing?

Only thing I can think of which I've witnessed at the pumps was a bloke who had filled his missus's car up with fuel, only for her to notice AFTER he'd finished filling that he had put a full tank or petrol in her diesel car.

The fallout was hilarious, him blaming her, her blaming him. finally the checkout guy shouted over the tannoy that they should push the car away from the pumps and continue their arguement elsewhere, she jumped in and tried starting the car only for it to refuse and limp out under the power from the starter only smile

I travel past two petrol stations on my way in to and back from work everyday. They are on opposite sides of the road and nearly fully opposite each other. One side charges 2 - 3p more per litre for petrol, and more for diesel. I see more people on the expensive side. Odd.

Sounds cheap for BP.

I like the muppetry that I often see at a petrol station near me: people often start to queue in one long queue for all the pumps... blocking the car park outside the station. so I just drive past and behind someone who is filling up. The result is that I don't wait as long, and the chaos that the queue is causing outside the station is eased when the other muppets cotton on.

In a similar vein, the strangest thing i've seen was a man polishing his engine of his E46 M3 whilst parked at a pump. There was a queue waiting behind him and one lady got out an said "what are you doing?" and the guy lost it - completely went beserk and exclaimed "there's pumps over there use them, i'm here!"

Another was whilst in a queue (of about 5 people) waiting to pay at the counter the man second in the line decided he wanted a can of coke, so left the queue to go and get one. He came back and tried to get back to where he was in the queue and the man that was behind him punched him! There was a tussle and eventually the police were called out - i had to make a statement as a witness!...well this was in East Glasgow....

Pretty pointless. The person behind can't begin filling up until you have paid for your fuel and the pump zeroed.

The time you waste getting back in your car, starting it and moving it forward 6 foot before paying is better spent actually paying!
