Well it turns out that the previous owner of my '94 UK model 1.8iS car had only bodged the sill repairs by welding fresh metal over the rot!!

So rather than just having to get my rear arches sorted with new metal, I am now looking at rather more cutting and welding type repairs...

After sorting the suspension with new bushes, springs and dampers, track-rod ends etc and having done the usual rocker gasket and CAS o ring etc along with full service, I had a fun 12 months of MX5'ing.

Now, however, I'm reluctant to throw another £800-£1k at sorting the bodywork properly - I guess I'm not sure that I love the car enough to do that?!

So do I sell as is, or buy a Westfield and transplant the decent oil bits?!!

Aarrrggghhh!

If I had a rotten MX-5 and had the time and space, which it sounds like you do. I would really consider one of these. Something a little different from all the Cateram/Westfield lookalikes.

Nick, have you spoken to Garath the MX-5 Restorer? Bit if a treck down but his work appears to be first class and, I suspect, less costly than youve been quoted.

And the best thing is, once the work is done you have a completely solid rust-free car! Must be cheaper than selling up and buying a new one or building a kit.

Well, it's Carl at CBS autos who has quoted for the work and he certainly knows his MX5s - had 8 there in various states of disrepair.

I could have it patched up and it would look OK, but I've never been one for simply papering over the cracks! Doing it properly always costs

Actually had a Eunos S-Type in the same laguna blue as mine & would have done a deal, but I'm not sure I want to start all over again at the moment. My wife's having a major operation in the next few weeks, so perhaps time for some time-out from toys to concentrate on family!
