Hertfordshire to Middlesbrough

Hey there.
I'm travelling from hertfordshire to middlesbrough this sunday. Thinking about leaving 6am and then coming back from middlesbrough about 5pm. Whats the quickest route what would avoid traffic. Im thinking a1 or m1? If anyone could help, It would be great. Thanks!

I haven't driven the A1 recently, does it have any average camera sections at the moment? I also found a better standard of driving on the A1 in comparison to the M1 - It would be the A1 for me every time.

15 mile average camera section from Leeming to Dishforth on the A1 at the moment.
On a Sunday, I'd probably do the A1 as there won't be the side-by-side trucks there are on a week day so the shorter distance should mean a quicker (and no doubt slightly cheaper) journey than the M1.
