Want to sell my golf. Long time ago I sold the original wheels and bought these (pic) aftermarket ones. The car is going to be hard enough to sell as it's a 2.8 v6 and these days everyone is paranoid about fuel consumption etc. So, I can get some original wheels, but they need new tyres, so total cost I'm looking at is £400 + the hassle, (plus I could sell these wheels I suppose for a couple of hundred).

So, is it worthwhile thing to do? i.e. return it to standard looking? Will the couple of hundred quid overall expense to me be recouped? Or should I just not bother? confused

note this is not an advert the car is not even ready to be sold

now: (18" replicas)

before: (16" originals)

If the wheels are the only mod i`d personally get a set of oem ones and ebay the aftermarket ones, think the aftermarket one`s look nice but i`d be suprised if the car wasn`t worth more being totally original.

You can pick up a set of used VW alloys for not much at all, and fit some quality part worns to them, but given the likely sale price of the car, I doubt it'll be worthwhile. Alternatively, you could go on a VW forum and offer to swap those wheels with another member's standard wheels (maybe with a few quid your way). You'd probably get no end of 17/18 year olds biting your hand off for those wheels if you took that route.

The current alloys may limit the market number of people who would be interested in the car, but no more so than the big engine. Then again, big wheels are seen by many as sporty, so someone looking for a fast Golf may prefer those to originals...

I wouldn't even consider one with those wheels you have on it, if that's any help.

Personally I don't buy cars that have the eBay special aftermarket wheels on. So yes I would change them.

Why do you have an intercooler?

As others I wouldn't buy something that wasn't as the manufacturer intended unless the mods were performance enhancing and discreet. In the case of wheels they would need to be lightweight motorsport ones on a car with sporting intent.

If you can source a set without tyres cheaply then offer the new buyer a choice.

You won't get any more cash for the aftermarket wheels, so sell them and shod with the OEM's and you may make some extra cash on top of the car sale.

I had a VF supercharger fitted at the time (since removed and put back to standard).

OK chaps thanks - it looks like going back to original is the answer yes
