Hi folks just thought I'd alert you guys, there seems to be quite a bit of bullying in The Lounge recently and whilst I find the odd jab amusing it is getting out of hand IMO. An American chap made a silly thread and straight away the elitists jump in with xenophobic comments. I haven't seen him post since. I enjoy being a part of the community but the attitude of some users makes me not want to post anymore which is a shame. Link:: http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

I've just skim-read the thread you linked and it seemed to me like the OP had an axe to grind, went in with an agenda in a fairly unpleasant way, and the results weren't really that unexpected.

Plus we have a long history of Americans not "getting" the very Brit-centric nature of PH. I remember one time when PetrolTed wrote code to add amusing "rankings" to posters based on post count and an American actually threatened to set his lawyers on PH over the fact he had been branded a "major gassbag" (or something like that). I kid you not.

Perhaps best to use the report function for specific posts.

Strange mix of attitudes towards the Yanks in here.

Never did understand the hatred, but equally find fawning over some American culture somewhat nauseating...bro, dude and all that bks.

Especially irritating where the English language is tortured and murdered...

I agree that the OP over-reacted a bit but he got ripped, I know Americans don't really get our sense of humour and banter - it just seemed to me like he was being provoked, something similar happened on another of his threads too.

I haven't even heard of this poster before, so I can't comment on backstory or past history, but if anyone was being provocative in the thread you linked it was the OP. Everything else was reaction to it.

But, as I said, I have no idea of past history (clearly he had an axe to grind with respect to CW7) so I will reserve judgement. But if one was to take that thread in isolation then the OP doesn't come out of it as the aggrieved party in any respect whatsoever.

Hmm, after another read through it does look as if he backed into a corner rather quickly, I probably would have ripped him myself if I had saw that silly post regarding America as the 'greatest country in the world'. I still think it wa a tad harsh but oh well, nothing to see here.

It's locked now. It was a rubbish thread so I just made a MBU comment (when I have nothing to say).

I always think it's best to select a post you think isn't right and report, it makes sure you can identify what's actually offensive or bullying rather than an overall impression. Seems PH acted anyway, probably more due to the fact that it was a load of rubbish more than anything.

I completely agree.

And enough with the American generalisations. We're not all the same. wink
