Hi there.

I just fitted at 2.5" stainless steel exhaust system to my Gen 1 Mini Cooper S - http://goo.gl/B3Ycn - this is up 1/4" from stock and I am finding it too loud. It pops and splutters a lot more than the stock exhaust, and drones at certain revs

Does anyone have anything that I could do to quieten it down a little?

Thanks in advance.

TD

Try re-fitting the standard one.

It's a cheap eBay special, save up and get a custom built one that can be tailored to your rquirements and sell that one on ?

Or put the original back on with the one silencer conversion.

How many silencers did the old one have, and how many has the current one got?

Thanks for the interesting and hilarious replies.

Seriously though, is there nothing I can do to make a difference?

You can tell how good it'll be when the quote "10-20bhp increase in horsepower".

You need to give more details of what you've bought.

Take out your spark plugs. Smash them with a hammer.

I was going to tell you your manhood had died when you created this thread, but then I realised it was a fitted to a Mini and your manhood had long since withered into decay.

Stainless steel is louder than mild steel even with the same system.

I've heard of folk getting exhausts ceramic coated to quieten them down. No idea of how much it costs or whether it'll work in your case. Sorry!

To give you a helpful response, you could try a couple of bungs, they will make it quiter but they don't especially look very sexy - http://www.haywardandscott.com/various/exhaust-bun...

Or, as others have said, it looks like a cheapy ebay special. Had you gone with a branded one you could have chosen something quieter.

I looked at this when mine went, ended up getting a new JCW and have not regretted it. Did cost 3 times that though! Save up and get a proper one is my advice.

I had a "droning" noise from the stainless steel Scorpion exhaust on my old quattro so i bought a roll of sound insulation off ebay and stuck it to the boot floor (under the carpet) and under the rear seats.
Wasn't a 100% cure but it certainally took the "bass" out of the drone and the family would go in it after that.
