On saying this I’ll probably go at to the car park at home time and it won’t start…….

Last July I needed a stop gap car quickly and bought a P reg 325i with 170k on the clock for £340 It had MOT till February 12 and thought if it lasts me a month or 2 if it breaks I’ll just take it to a scrappie and probably get £150-£200 for it.

Went in for it’s MOT last week, I knew it needed one new tyre but didn’t want to get one until I knew if it would go through otherwise. Only needed a tyre in the end.

I don’t think it will see another MOT, a knocking is coming from what I think is the gearbox. Put 8k miles on it since August and all it’s needed, is fuel, insured, put through its Mot and a £60 tyre-excellent bangernomics!!! It’s been on a couple of long journeys and although it a bit tatty it’s really comfortable, don’t think it will be going far now though knowing the gearbox could fail. It’s pretty thirsty but given my monthly mileage I don’t particularly notice. Everything works except the drivers electric window-could be tricky if I ever visit a drive through……

I was starting to hunt out a replacement should it need loads of stuff on it’s MOT , and was sort of looking forward to getting a new budget mobile.

I bought an E30 316 in December for that price, and so far so good. It did have a hissy fit and throw its exhaust onto the ground at 40 mph but £20 later for a re-weld and its still going strong. It's only done 104k and it feels solid. Its got a bit of an oil leak from the sump pan but nothing terminal. I only need it to last me till April or so but I bet it will soldier on for another 10-20k. And if not.. well I'm already pricing up a replacement smile

Splendid bangernomics, my latest supershed is the 328i convertible.
Everything works, full history, went through the mot needing just a balljoint and tyre.
