Hi

First time poster in here and I know virtually nothing about the current breed of TVs (given that the current one is 15 years old).

Well, the 15 year old CRT is flickering and buzzing and taking forever to start up in the morning so have decided the time has come to upgrade. It could be an easy fix but it's been fixed 3 or 4 times already and it's looking a little sorry for itself.

The size of the room limits us to a 32" screen and I'm currently torn between these two:

Panasonic TXL32E30B

Samsung UE32D5520

The Panasonic seems to have the best reviews but what do people think. Open to other suggestions so long as it's not a Sony.

Also, anyone know whether either (or both) of these will work with Lovefilm or Netflix so I can bin my Sky Movies sub when I upgrade to HD?

Everyone on here raves about Panasonic boxes. I bought a 19" TX-L19E3B and it's a nice enough TV.

However, I've just bought a Samsung 32" (UE32D6530) for the bedroom and it's a great set. My initial thoughts are that it's significantly better than the Panasonic in terms of picture quality, though it's always hard to compare screens of such different sizes.

Couple of things of note:

- the remote on the Samsung is rubbish. Not a pleasant thing to use (backlight's more or less helpful though).
- the smart menus can be a bit slow.
- the picture out of the box is massively over sharpened. I've always found this odd about Samsung sets when I've seen them in the shops. Picture's easily tuned.

I'd definitely recommend it.

(Still not a patch on my main tv though - Pioneer 436).

Went for the Panasonic in the end. Saw a 37" Panasonic next to the Samsung in the shop and, while I appreciate that it's in part down to setup, the Panasonic looked a much better picture to my eyes.

Very pleased with it and even with the current SD sources the picture is a vast improvement on the old TV. Sky HD upgrade ordered today so am keen to see it from an HD source. Had to tone the picture down a bit, seemed a little oversaturated out of the box.

Was an absolute breeze to connect to the WiFi and it just found and worked with the Synology NAS (once I realised that it would only ever see the original 3 folders) and is happily streaming DVDs from there. Have sent off a snottogram though as the oik in the shop assured me that it had Netflix on it which it doesn't (not in the Viera shop thingy either). Not a deal-breaker but I don't appreciate people making things up and it was to be a sweetener for the Mrs for cancelling the Sky Movies. Have realised that if I get the Wii out of storage can watch Netflix through that.
