E Class AMG with three baby seats - possible?

Hi, we have just found out that we have a third baby on the way...My way of dealing with this great but shocking news is to immediately try and find the very best car that will take three baby seats. My wife's friend bought an E-Class (W211) on the basis that you can get three child's seats in the back.
Now if this means you can get three in a row I will definitely and very happily replace our 535d touring with an E55 AMG estate. My suspicion though is that you can get two on the back (middle) seats and then a further seat in the rear facing boot seats.
Does any one have experience of this and know the definitive answer, otherwise we might be looking at a Discovery.

i suspect you can, certainly i manage in the latest gen E klase wagon. depends on the age of your offspring, but in my experience baby seats (the rear facing ones) are pretty small and can easily fit in the middle of the bench. don't put any of them in the boot, thats not sufficiently safe as i am sure you are aware. by the way i found fiddling around with three child seats regularly a massive pain, and a large SUV such as a Discovery3/4 is preferable to an estate where every time you load up the family it's a squash and a squeeze. space is by and large the greatest luxury when ferrying 3 kids.
The boot mounted seats may be lawfully used by small children without any additional seat or booster as they are homologated to the required standard. They are also perfectly safe, if anything safer than the ordinary rear seats because, of course, they are rear facing.
I'd be surprised if you can get three child-seats across the rear bench of a s211 since such seats are enormous. There are ISOFIX mounting points only on the outer seats, not the central seat, although both the s210 and s211 have three three-point harnesses.

i appreciate that being faced backwards is safer in a frontal impact, but in a heavy rear impact they are sat within the crumple zone, together with any luggage, whichever way you look at it. I'd be surprised if you can get three child-seats across the rear bench of a s211 since such seats are enormous. Ive got a hankering after an E estate AMG - we havd 3 girls twins at 7 and single at 4 all in boosters. But we also have a Disco 3. Disc would be kept for the snow and rough duties and the E for me at work mostly me only but ith back up of able to get all family into the E when we want to.

This is correct and yet... incorrect. The additional child seats in the boot do not feature int he price list for the w210 E55 AMG, the w211 E55 AMG, the w211 E63 AMG or the w212 E63 AMG. And yet plenty of these cars seem to have them with the correct seat pattern and everything. I don't know, either. Presumably they can be special ordered. superlightr said:

I'm still struggling with this and haven't found a solution yet. There aren't any AMG's near me so haven't been able to check the fit, although I suspect it will be very, very tight if it does actually go. My latest thoughts are the current X5, perhaps most similar to my current 535D Touring (chipped by Simon at E-maps) which I'm very, very happy with. These are a fair bit more money though. A Range Rover (worried about the reliability), Discovery (utterly dull to drive). I sincerely hope that the AMG will accommodate us all (I wouldn't use the rear facing seats for the kids) as otherwise there is very little choice.
I've looked at the Mutlimac system and whilst it might suit some I can't see my two boys accepting a switch from their current comfy individual seats to a bench affair without a fair bit of hassle and I don't really blame them.
This is tough and is reason enough to stick to two kids.
I suspect that it is possible to fit them as all the anchoring points will be there. I retro-fitted these seats in my W124 E36 estate as they are so useful and would not be without them. There is a similar issue with AMG towbars. It may simply be because they did not try to obtain type approval for the rear seats and towbars.
I have been thinking about changing car and have been watching the second hand prices of W212 E63 estates in freefall with glee. I would love one of these. However, if they do not have the seven seats I cannot justify the purchase. The alternative is the R class but they have discontinued all petrol variants now. I think that only 1 or 2 R63s ever came to the UK. I need to have a bit of fun as well as having a practical family car! I know diesels are v powerful and loved by many, but I do a lot of very short journeys and not good for dpfs, plus I just dont get on with diesels. I will probably just keep the 124 until it falls apart as it is a fantastic and characterful car, and probably wouldnt get much for it anyway as mileage v large!

you can't get the 2010-current model E63 AMG wagon with the additional occassional use seats 6/7 in the boot. i asked when i was looking to spec one new and i was told by MB Brooklands and another dealer that this was no longer an option.
i subsequently purchased a lightly used car from MB direct, and am running it as my daily driver. we have 3 children, 9, 6 and 4 and they all fit across the back bench in their respective safety seats/boosters. however my wife runs a Disco4 and the children much prefer to do distance in that car as simply it's a lot less cramped. also the 525ps being applied on occassion might be a little uncomfortable....

How are you getting on with your E AMG - having fun? your views if you have time would be appreciated. Similar set up on motors with a D3 for the wife & 3 kids and 335i cab for me. sure, np. i've run it for 2.5k miles so far over the last 2 months. it's an absolutely fabulous car, brimming with charisma and ability. my first Mercedes and i have to say it's proving a real pleasure to run. the engine does dominate the car, but the gearbox and chassis are also top draw. the interior is nicely put togther and the systems (nav, music, etc) are very intuitive and upto date. i have the luxury pack which consists of nappa leather everywhere (seats, dash, doors, etc) and alcantara roof lining. worth searching out one with that option as well as the slippy diff (most seem to have been specced with this luckily). i have previously run two RS6's (early '08 and early '10 V10's) and an E60 and E39 M5 (back in 2002/4). this car combines the quality and solidity of the RS6 with the dynamism of the M5. also thanks to it's relaxed gearing i am averaging 20mpg and get 25mpg easy on a run, whereas the RS6 was sub 20 and the M5 sub 15 as an average. it's also got a big tank (80 litres) so u aren't constantly bunkering at petrol stations like i was with the M5. i believe it is Chris Harris's favourite supersaloon and i can understand why.
