Long lived petrol turbocharger?

I've just noticed the wifes Astra Turbo (petrol) is on 81,000 miles and its original turbo.
I've always changed the oil every 4-5000 miles with a fully synthetic.
I always thought they only lasted about 50k.
Any other big milers out there?
I had a Leon Cupra R making about 270bhp, 95,000 miles and it was on the original turbo. It felt so, so strong, it probably had years of life left in it.I've always changed the oil every 4-5000 miles with a fully synthetic.

Run it on good quality oils, change the oil and filter at the specified intervals, idle for 30 secs before switching off each time and it'll last the life of the engine. 200k isn't uncommon for old saabs, and a million miles or so probably wouldn't be out of reach for the turbo on a truck engine.

k me, you're doing something wrong if you kill a turbo in 50k.
I remember my driving instructor telling me that he had been told by many a pub mechanic that the turbo in his 1.7CDTI Astra driving school car would get past the 50,000 mark, he returned it to the lease company with 100,000 miles after 2 and a bit years of driving, complete with a perfectly healthy turbo.
k me, you're doing something wrong if you kill a turbo in 50k. Don't believe all of the stories you hear!

If you average 30mph, that is only 2,700 operating hours.I've always changed the oil every 4-5000 miles with a fully synthetic.

Call back when it gets to 10,000 hours
