I have a Chevrolet Lacetti where the base of the gear-stick vibrates when its in gear and the engine is revving, and the vibration causes a metallic "tizzing" sound.
If you rest your hand on the gear stick and move it just one or two millimeters, the noise can stop and come back.

I uploaded a video of the problem here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PS3sPWRQt2k

It looks wet because I have just sprayed it with tonnes of white grease, which didn't make a difference.

Any idea how to sort this out? It's really annoying and is sometimes loud enough to drown out the radio and engine!

Does it make the noise while driving or affect the car?

I suppose you have already tried pressing and holding various parts to see if the rattle goes away?

The problem may be further down the stick where it connects to the gearbox. There may be a plastic washer or similar that has deteriorated or fallen out. Get under the car and have a good look.

It does make the noise while driving. Very loud sometimes!

Pushing/squeezing things doesn't make a difference. But moving the gearstick a couple of millimeters in any direction does stop it.

I'm not very familiar with the underneath of a car... What specifically should I look at?
