Cayman won't release key when in Park

First post on this forum,one day into ownership of 2006 8K Cayman S Tip the car won't release the key although the park LED is illuminated and the engine will start so car has detected the P position, the error message says move gear lever to P.
I am doing something completely stupid or have I got a problem.

Found the answer on Planet 9, seems quite common and has gone into the US owners manual.

Just curious, and a bit lazy, what was the problem?
