Hi folks, can I ask a question? I am building a special using a MX5 turbo lump and cannot fit the meter at its original attitude. Will it work correctly if its at an angle and twisted through 90 deg? (as I suspect it will )
If it has any moving parts like a flap valve (very unlikely) then it may not like being in a different position. It is far more likeley to just have a hotwire type sensor which should not care which way is up.
They are a falppy thing, you could (and I would advise) converting it map sensor as the original unit cant cope with turbocharger volumes. Some googling will reveal your options.
Have a look on MX5 Nutz for loads of info on Turboing a 5. You can do it using the airflow meter but you should keep it the same way up. It is far better though to use MAP. Use it with a megasquirt or similar it is far far better than bodging rising rate fuel regs etc.
