Vehicle Neglect - sad, odd, surreal
Discussion
One of my customers has got a volvo 850r that he has had from new and paid circa 30k for - has fastidiously maintained it mechanically and has a major service about every 6 month but he has never and mean NEVER washed it or cleaned it out in the 15 odd years he's owned it - the paint work is ruined and the interior is an absolute cess pit - stinks like nothing else. I just can't understand why you spend all that money and be so thorough with servicing and never even run a sponge over it ???
Step daughter #1 worked her way up to a company BMW 318i coupe. She was so proud of it, brought it to show us the first evening she had it. Took me for a blast in it. Went home, bumped up the kerb as usual, discovered the problem with low profile tyres. Two wheels knackered. Never liked the car quite so much again.
Next job, had to buy her own car. Bought an ex-Porsche GB Boxster S demonstator. She was so proud of it, brought it to show us the first evening she had it. Read as above except she should have remembered about the low profile tyres.
Sigh.

That is not neglect more lack of mechanical sympathy... and financial if she is bending wheels every time she visits
They weren't completely ruined, just scraped and dinged enough for her to never think so fondly about the cars again. Her joy lasted a few hours at best. When she came to sell the Boxster I said I'd have it for a day to clean it thoroughly. She was mortified.
