It's cold, I have a silly car (lotus Elise) and I really miss the heated seats I've had on previous bmws.

Does anyone have any experience of heated seats in these things? Is it even possible to get them fitted?

I know it's a lightweight sports car etc and I could put another layer on but I 'need' this kind of warmth!

Thanks in advance

Have you thought about buying the heated seat covers that you often see? It would be a cheap and simple compromise.

Heated seat covers are great - I have something similar to this fitted in a car whose heater is ineffective and it makes a big difference.

Make sure that the back is heated as well as the seat, and that the heated area isn't the size of a postage stamp. If you'll be buying one for the passenger seat, bear in mind they draw a bit of current so you'll need a fairly heavy duty 2-way adaptor - most of the cheapo ones for plugging phone chargers into would most likely overheat.

If you are buying one of those plug in ones make sure your cigarette lighter socket isn't still powered when the ignition is off!. You would only need to forget to unplug it once to make you regret it.

I wired up a relay that powers the lighter socket only when the ignition is on as my wife's Fiesta had a constantly on lighter socket.

Some of the guys on the VX220 forum have retrofitted some heated seat elements into the standard seats and it still looks OEM, I was tempted to do this to mine. http://www.vx220.org.uk/forums/index.php?/topic/96...

I used to use these guys a lot for retro fitting leather interiors. They always did a really good job, never had a complaint.

You can get various heated clothing for motorcycling - probably an easier option than taking seats to bits. £100 or so gets a nice heated vest which plugs into 12v.
