Snow related bad news/good news.

The bad news is that I am having to work tonight and I am not overly confident in my relief getting in on time tomorrow morning.

The good news is that I have a 750 car capacity car park on site with no one else to spoil the snow. Midnight snow drifting here I come.

Just done Camberley to Woking to Frimley Green in the Grand Cherokee. Much fun. Overtaking in that tank on Pirbright bends is a bit of a novelty. Red Road was closed at the Maultway but I was tempted to go down anyway as I've not yet used the low range and thought it would be a good chance to try it out in earnest. GC drives like one of those ice rally cars when on the snow.

After 1/2 an hour of careful (and not fun at all) investigation I can conclud a number of things;

An automatic Rav4 is not the finest natural drift vehicle.
With careful applications of the handbrake combined with the loud pedal it can be made to do wonderfully controlled drifts and donuts, but the moment you lift off it will get traction and hurl you in whatever direction the wheels happen to be pointed.
The Subaru was definitely more fun in a big, deserted, snow covered car park.
The Rav is still fun enough.

ETA if it is still snowy tomorrow i will accept bribes of food to give local PHers access to perform their own investigations into snow covered car parks.

Red Road and Maultway are ok as I have just been up to the yard just to run up the trucks ready for tomorrow and check levels, lights etc.

You would think that highways would ay least be using the plough's fitted to gritting trucks to just help clear some of the main roads and bus routes.
Ready for the gritting later in the day, this will help to avoid some of the pack ice that forms when the snow thaws out a bit during the day.

The problem with Red road is the hill rather than the bends.

I realize that but the road is so wide and pretty straight and for the most part 'safe' off either edge. The road from Frimley Green to Brookwood probably has the same amount of incline but throws in ditches, tighter corners, cambers and trees that lose their branches into the road when it snows.
