W202 C240, what should I look for?

A friend is threatening to sell me his 2000 W202 C240 for £500 before he heads off to Afghan, and so I'd like to know what sort of things are likely to go wrong with it in the near future? It's an Auto, has covered about 111k miles and he bought it last year for £1000.

I'm expecting suspension trouble and some rust remedy, but is there anything else more fatal I should be looking out for?

Generally nothing major if it's had oil and filters changed every 9-12 months.
At that age check the suspension and bushes.. Also the spring coils
Make sure the auto gear box shifts thru the gearbox smoothly

At that age I'm guessing it's a face lifted model (the steering column adjusts for reach). The paint quality wasn't as good on my later W202, so check around the wheel arches.
