Had to use the M5 today as daily runaround threw a sickie. Conscious of potential snow I was hoping not to have to use it. Anyway, loads of salt on the road and that got me wondering about corrosion protection underneath. Is it something not to worry about or do I need to risk frostbite over the next few days and get a hosepipe under the car? I hope it's not an issue as the missus thinks I'm far too precious about the car as it is! Anyway don't they use salt on the roads in Bavaria?!

Any views appreciated smile

The only thing to corrode is the rear brake pipes but greasing them up should see them last.

The E60 used inferior brake pipes to the E90.

I broke my 12 year old M5 (E39) due to excessive corrosion all over it, eventually leading to the jack point collapsing. BMW's don't have adequate rust protection so yes, you should clean it off.
