I've got to drive 150 mile in the morning, my 330ci has 4 inches of snow on it, dosnt concern me in the slightest, I'll be traveling from Whitney to Cheshire.
Let you know how I got on if I remember tomorrow.

Winter tyres helped get me around this evening without a doubt. My parents very steep drive did defeat them as I started too slowly though! Our Focus would never even have got to their town.

I took this 3 years ago, sitting in a queue waiting for a stuck BMW to be sorted out
I then drove across the county without getting stuck once, mostly driving on the wrong side passed stuck and abandoned cars smile

Strangely by 530D auto Tourer was the only car to get up our local hill easily tonight, serenely pulled out and sailed past all the Astras' Focus's etc slithering around on the slope......................like to claim it was my superior skill. but I'm sure the winter tyres had something to do with it. laugh

Don't see what all the fuss is about. My S2000 on Uniroyals was amazing in the snow last year. Ive got to go to Rotherham tomorrow in the Volvo 940 with crappy rear tyres on, Hopefully it wont be too bad!

Knowing the limitations of a Beemer on 275 rft summer tyres in the snow I have decided to only drive to the local car park for donut practice.

Work can reschedule as I work from home.

Last year I mashed my Quattro on summer tyres on sheet ice on an off camber bend being a dick so I know my limits wink

I dont understand the thread. RWD cars dont automatically become undriveable in the snow. I took my gf home earlier and we have a fair covering here in Leeds.

Same here. Weird how it shows up uncensored prior to making a post.
Knew what the sweary rant said though, far too easy to work out.

I have smile - I just wondered whether it was meant to show or not when quoting given it was censored on the open forum.

Back on topic - I have a RWD BMW on summer tyres and haven't had a problem at all despite some interesting conditions up here, I just drive to conditions smile

I get stuck behind nervous drivers more than I see BMWs all over the place!

I can tell you why BMW's are stuck.

Firstly it's cause they are st drivers, and can't control the throttle vs clutch and secondly because they have not pressed the traction control button.

Most drivers expect the button to switch off TC. It does if you hold it down for a couple of seconds. However a single press put's it into a 'snow' mode, allows the wheels to spin a little and keep moving.

I've been out in ours and it's fine.
