Well, finally tracked down the mystery leak and its the the water pump, done a quick search for a replacement and there is rather a lot of different ones!!!!!

So does anybody know the correct part number for an 83 spec V8 or a have one kicking around to swap for beer tokens?

No help on part numbers, didn't need one until now. Seems that the length for the pulley is a discriminating factor.
So it is more then a gasket? Seems you need a quality one as the cheap versions are difficult to get to seal properly.

Chedder.... give TVR Power a call as we got one from them the other year as the bearing was starting to leak.
Cant remember the part no though but they wanted a pic of the pump to get the correct unit.

I used the following parts for my 1985 V8 which were all available from Rimmer Bros. There are several pumps available for the V8 and some suppliers said that the right one was obsolete.
Rimmers had it in stock though and provided an excellent service

water pump GWP2149 came with gasket
thermostat 82 degrees C GTS104
thermostat housing gasket GTG125
Fan Belt GCB11125 which is 1125 x 10mm

I`d put your new gasket on with some liquid gasket as well just to be sure. I didnt and mine leaked.

Thanks Ferlin, bought the pump from Rimmers, ordered at lunchtime, delivered following morning!!!!!!

Now fitted TFFT.....also resolved an electrical problem from last year (lights) MOT time soon, some tax and then it's time to upset the locals! (recently moved to the sticks!)

Looks like mine has gone now - I noticed the pulley was a bit loose/on the cock when I was fiddling with the alternator and now it's peeing water like a good-un, out of the hole beneath the bearing, just about managed to get home today by topping up a number of times.

I still have my old one with the crack so I might have a go at aly welding (and while there bulk it up a bit for more strength where the supercharger mounting goes on.) Otherwise it's Rimmer's too...

Just checked Rimmers price - at 123 I am deffo fixing the old one first!!!

Not quite sure which water pump you should get if you don't know the part no. I think mine may be on the way out or the gasket is leaking which probably means pump anyway. So unless I take it to Rimmers how do I know which one it is ?

Look at the picture on the website - unless you are a serp front it should be the same. The main features are the take-off for the heater pipe on the main outlet, and the front-back depth, bearing in mind you might want to cut off any SDi viscous fan shaft sticking out.

For Ali welding try bike repairs, as bikes use a lot a ali. they should be able to weld it for you for some beer tokens.

I had to replace the water pump on my Tuscan racer recently. I used this one as it was a bit cheaper smile

It fit perfectly.

The metal pipe to feed the engine comes out the back of my pump not the side like the TR8 pump .

Hmm - good spot, still a hundred poond though.

Well the idiots supplying my Aly mig wire sent the wrong gas - Argon+CO2, instead of pure Argon - so it has to go back and I can't do it this weekend. I may try a bike place instead, there should be plenty around Cambs...

One good bit of news - a friend has a supply of gasket paper so I can make up a gasket ready to go on. I suppose I can take off the old pump to make a start, and finish off the alternator rebuild and get that on ready.

I've been a lazy bugger and only took off the old pump after I got the new one sorted.

Good news is - I can now weld aluminium (now I know Jujitsu!) So I have fixed the crack and also bulked up the buttress that was cracking so it's a lot stronger.

Repaired pump back on finally tonight. One of the long bolts hardly has any thread left in the hole so I might eventually have to put a stud in instead. But for now let's see if it holds water.

Well I haven't been using the Wedge much as I've been off on "holiday" (actually doing loads around the house etc) but managed to look at it today and run it all fully up to temperature.

One problem was the rad cap didn't seem to be sealing but that turned out to be a small bit of crud between the cap seal and the small disc that lets water back in - once cleaned it all pressurised properly and there are no leaks - so let's heap on the hot weather!
